Things to Consider with going blonde
Depending on your current level or haircolor (light or darkness) it can take more than one application (and visit) to get to your desired shade of blonde. The hair can only physically go so light in one visit. Previously colored hair can complicate the process. Most clients do not get platinum blonde hair in a 2 hour visit. It takes time to do blonde properly while maintaining your hair's health as much as possible. Blonding services do cause some damage, so after care and conditioning treatments are key to keeping your hair healthy.

Helpful Information
Methods
Backcombing, Palm-rolling, Twisting, Interlocking, Stretching, Crochet. *crochet takes substantially more time. *New dreads can take 5-12 hours with each lock taking 5-20 minutes depending on hair length, density, sectioning, and techniques. It comes down to time and technique. You can have locs that are tighter from the start, or ones that require more time and care at home. EITHER WAY both take at home care to keep up. All of the time and work done in the salon can be wasted if not taken care of at home.
Products:
We do not use waxes. Most of the time only a water soluble dry shampoo or salt spray is used. A scalp calming spray may also be utilized. We do not use waxes.
Locking Perms:
To accelerate the locking process you may opt for chemically locking your dreads with an ammonia free Organic Perm Solution. * Your Dreads cannot be unlocked completely after this is applied. This service is done after locks are created. Locks will faintly smell like a perm every time they get wet.
Lock Maintenance:
Backcombing, Palm Rolling, and Twisting, and crochet are used depending on hair texture, your preference, and the stylist's recommendation. Time: 2-20 minutes per lock depending on grow-out, length, root or whole lock care, repair required, and technique.
Things to consider with maintenance:
How many locks do you have? How long are they? Do you have stray hairs at the scalp or throughout? Are their holes? Do you need them smoothed out? (note not all can be smoothed out). What is the most important part you want worked on? *Maintenance appointments can be booked in 2-4 hour appointments. That may be all you need, or more time or appointments can be made. Appointments are booked by the hour. Each loc can take about 5 minutes to work on (estimation). To figure out your timing, multiply the amount of locs you have by 5 minutes and divide that by 60 to see how many hours it may take (just an estimation) *If your locks are grown together and need to be separated, a feather razor may be used to separate them (tip: separate them at home if you do not want this done). *Locs need to be maintained daily for at least 3 weeks after your appointment to ensure all the hard work from your appointment stays put. *Locs in high traffic areas (where you sleep or pull into buns and such, will see more movement and need more at home care. Most clients seeking maintenance visit the salon 1 to 3 times per year. The more work you need done to your locks beyond normal grow out, the more time it will take.
Lock Installation:
It can take 3-12 months for locks to fully tighten and mature with proper at home care and regular maintenance. You will not come out of the salon with fully locked hair! Your hair must be 6 inches or longer. Anchoring techniques like sewing thread or rubber bands may be needed or recommended (this adds 2-10 minutes per lock). General movement of locks, sleeping, washing, and pulling back can cause locs to loosen up and extensions to wiggle out.
Partial Dreadlocks:
Yes, we do that :) Maybe you only want 5 - 20 dreads under your hair. Consultations, deposits, and timing still applies.
Things to consider with installations:
*You need to take care of your locs daily at home after your appointment. This means palm rolling, crochet if wanted, and making sure locs are not fusing to one another every day. Over-maintenance is possible, so please do your research and do what you think is best for your hair. No maintenance at home will lead to bad results. *Locs in high traffic areas (where you sleep or pull into buns and such, will see more movement and need more at home care. The thickness of your hair will impact the size of your dread. This can develop and change over time. Different points on your scalp are looser than others and locks can loosen up an slip, requiring at home care. Sleeping loosens locks. Pulling your hair back, in a bun, or braiding can loosen locks. Locs must be separated daily to avoid them merging into one another. You will lose length from locking, sometimes up to 50%. Synthetic extensions are not recommended. Honeycomb does not provide extensions. Keep your locs clean and your scalp healthy. Do not use waxes, fully rinse shampoos and soaps, and fully dry locs to prevent dread-rot.
Why is a deposit required?
Dreadlock appointments take a good amount of service time. We have a large dreadlock clientele, and we want everyone to be able to get the appointment time that works best for them, while avoiding "no-call no-shows". This way people on our waiting list can get in if there is a cancellation. :)
At your appointment:
Bring snacks and water! Food and water are important. Bring something to entertain yourself like music with headphones (your stylist will be listening to salon speakers), a book, watch a movie on your phone with headphones! :) A pain reducer like ibuprofen or acetaminophen may help you, this is not a prescription and none will be provided...only take on the advisement of a healthcare professional.
Do not bring drugs or alcohol into the salon.
Aftercare:
Locs must be cared for at home. Do your own research to choose what is best for you. Take care of your locs and your scalp. *Avoid using waxes and conditioners to prevent product build up and dread-rot. Please don't cut or burn off fuzzy little hairs. When washing, make sure dreadlock shampoos or castile soaps are fully rinsed out. If you do not care for your locs at home, work from the salon will not last. *Tips: Palm roll and stretch locs after washing. Palm rolling helps the locking process and prevent flat spots, stretching can reduce shrinkage. Use your fingers like a comb to move from the scalp to the ends to separate locs daily. *Please note; Your locs will not be perfect, locs are fuzzy, and locs change over time. You can reduce the fuzz with dreadlock styling products (I suggest Dolly Locks) or by finger twisting and palm rolling). Just like we have to style unlocked hair, locs can require daily styling too depending on your preferences. You do what you can and enjoy the journey! Each one will be unique. :)
